Beat the Heat: Out & About in Dallas

Theres so much fun to be had in the Dallas Metroplex, and at Hatfield (now Alair Homes- Plano) Builders we love getting out to explore the latest and greatest goings on. Of course, between Downtown & Uptown Dallas, North Dallas, Plano, Frisco, and the surrounding areas, weve got major ground to cover.

From museums to blog photo1music, food to plain old fun, its all happening right here in Dallas and the nearby towns. Whatever you and your family enjoy, scope our list of whats happening in Dallas this June. And make sure to check back to our blog soon if something you plan to do is add some fresh improvements to your home, because well have plenty home decorating and design tips and inspiration coming later in the month.

View the work of the late Irving Penn, acclaimed fashion photographer who is accredited with establishing the genre, at the Dallas Museum of Art in Downtown Dallas now through June 24th. View images that were originally published in Vogue and beyond — in addition to incredible captures of models and celebrities, art images include frozen food, painted lips, and more. The retrospective has over 140 photographs on display and is sure to charm any fashion photography enthusiast or pop culture junkie. Visit DMA online for more information.

Make a rez at one of the hottest new spots in town this month. Graduation and wedding season are upon us, as is Father’s Day, but you don’t need an occasion to toast the good life at one of our local favorites. The Independent Bar & Kitchen in the Deep Ellum district has been written up in Eater, Culture Map Dallas, and elsewhere. Chef Andrew Dilda serves up European pub fare with a modern twist — it might be hot outside, but there’s no denying yourself pickle fries, mussels frites, or a proper Shepard’s Pie when you can wash it down with a variety draft beers.

Gamers unite! The Let’s Play Gaming Expo happens this month in Plano and promises to be a good time for all. Inspired by the YouTube “Let’s Play” videos, the expo celebrates gaming in all its glory with over 85 vendors, more than 90 arcade cabinets, indie developer displays, and so much more. There will also be tournaments, challenges, video game panels, and some super-special guests. If you’re spending most of that time in your fabulously redecorated Dallas home playing video games, get off the chic couch and head over to the Expo June 18th and 19th in Plano. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door; children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.

Bring on that festival feeling without any road trip necessary Decks in the Park is BACK and its happening on Thursday, June 23 in Dallas. This all-ages music festival combines tried-and-true favorites with up-and-coming artists for an explosion of talent you wont want to miss. And the best part? Its all FREE. Stay tuned while location plans are finalized and check in at Event Brite for more details closer to the event.
