DFW Fall Home Maintenance

As the Fall chill begins to settle in and leaves start to color, homeowners in the metroplex have a checklist to make sure homes are ready to face the impending winter months!

HVAC Maintenance: Air conditioning units take a back seat and while a (very much welcome) reprieve of heating or cooling takes place, the chilly Fall nights will quickly require a bump up on the thermostat. It is important to make sure your units are running properly; no one wants to be left reliant on spare comforters stowed away in the linen closet. A quick run of the system to flush out any burning smell and make sure warm air blows will help assure no emergency calls are needed on the first blustery night.

Pest Control: As cool weather sets in, insects and rodents seek a warmer climate, often times resulting in unexpected spiders on the floors, a possibly scurry in the wall or crickets chirping in the fireplace, literally! Fall is a great time to have your pest control company come out and do an inside-out treatment to preemptively ward off any unexpected visitors!

Gutters: If you have trees that are the same age as your home (or older) in the Dallas, Richardson or Plano areas, you know very well that the leaves have to go somewhere. Raking can be invigorating (and great exercise too) but leaves clogging the gutters is not a great situation. Gutters should be checked twice a year ideally. As a DIY check, be sure to use a safe ladder and heavy gloves. Scoop out any excess leaves (or nests) that have accumilated and look for cracks or issues in gutters and downspouts that may cause leaks. If this is not your thing, enlist the help of a professional to make sure there are no clogs that will cause you grief later.

Doing these simple things may seem minimal but these checks can save a lot of trouble mid-winter when you least want to deal with it! Questions on Fall home maintenance?? Be sure to ask and we’re happy to steer you in the right direction!

Just remember, basic upkeep makes for enjoyable holidays and fun crisp days!
