Project Update: The 2015 Model ReModel Nears Completion

IMG_5221We’ve got an update on the exciting partnership between Hatfield (now Alair Homes- Plano) Builders & Remodelers and Professional Remodeler magazine known as the 2015 Model ReModel. We’re part of a talented team that is turning a 2,500-square-foot 1968 home into a two-story, 5,000-square-foot showplace with plenty of wow factor!

Currently the Model ReModel is approximately 98% complete. Here are some of the latest developments in the project.

Raising the porch. The design architect wanted to keep the home’s original charm, which included keeping the windows where they are, and the porch intact. The outdated feel of the exterior was modified by adding trim, modern siding and extra height to the roof of the porch to create a more gracious space.

Window installation. Casement windows from Ply Gem were chosen for their energy efficiency and large size that lets in more light than the average sash window. Aluminum-clad stationary French doors (also by Ply Gem) installed in the master bedroom add floor-to-ceiling natural light and contribute to the open feel.

Siding installation. This home has Ply Gem’s Mastic insulated vinyl siding in a subtle Craftsman style that blends seamlessly with the brick and traditionally styled windows. Today’s vinyl siding is designed to complement the visual principles of virtually any architectural period. The homeowner selected the color Linen in keeping with her desire for a light, airy aesthetic.

Roofing installation. Chad Hatfield explains that the design team wanted a roofing material that was different than the standard asphalt shingle. An engineered slate roof was selected to provide a counterpoint to the light siding color. The material includes real slate in its composition, and is tested to meet multiple standards for performance in extreme Texas weather.

“The combination of the faux slate roof, casement windows and siding work together to achieve a total update while connecting to the original intention of the design,” says homeowner Carrie Hatfield (no relation to Chad).

Next up: the interior will be painted, floors finished and appliances installed. Stay tuned for more updates, and see what’s happening on the job site today!
