Learn More >>The Four Cornerstones of a North Dallas Bathroom Remodel
Hello friends,
Bathroom remodeling season is in full swing, so I thought I’d share some trends, tips and pictures based upon some of the projects we’re working on.
I hope you find this helpful and welcome your feedback.
One thing to remember, the only style that matters is your own. If this piques your interest in transforming your bathroom, I’d be honored to help you make it happen.
Many thanks,
Chad Hatfield

Bathrooms have come a long way in the past couple of decades. What used to be a purely functional water closet is now one of the crown jewels of the house. Bathroom remodels are very popular in North Dallas, Plano and Richardson because many homes built prior to 1970 just didn’t allow enough space for luxuries like an on-suite master bath. Many homes built afterward don’t have the architectural character to match today’s modern design trends.
With Team Hatfield’s creative eye, builder’s brain and a few good sledgehammers on your side, you can to turn the bathroom you have into the bathroom you’ve always wanted.
Please note that Hatfield (now Alair Homes- Plano) Builders & Remodelers only remodels powder rooms and guest bathrooms as part of larger remodel projects, like kitchen remodels and whole-home remodels. We do not remodel powder rooms or guest bathrooms alone.
In the past year, Hatfield (now Alair Homes- Plano) Builders has completed dozens of luxury bathroom remoding projects. Here are some of the trends we’ve been seeing:
1. Dual Sinks
Let’s face it — sometimes you need your own space. When two are sharing a bathroom during harried morning and evening routines, a little extra sink space can go a long way. The design choices are endless; from glass countertop bowls to inset sinks in porcelain or stainless steel. Hatfield (now Alair Homes- Plano) recommends placing the water source 34 to 36 inches off the ground to limit the strain of bending.
2. Walk In Showers
When space is limited, the tub and the shower are one in the same. When space becomes more plentiful, a step-in tiled shower is the ultimate bathroom luxury. Go with one showerhead or add a centrally placed sunflower showerhead for the feel of gentle summer rain. Directional wall sprays can provide an invigorating full body water massage.
3. Storage!
Modern design trends and good old-fashioned creativity allow every square inch of the bathroom to be utilized for storage. Under cabinet shelving, exposed towel shelves and slim linen cabinets can be added in places where no storage space previously existed.
4. Tile
Natural stone, ceramic, subway tile, colored glass — there is virtually no limit to the choices at your disposal. The right tiles in the right pattern can dramatically increase the feel of a room and tie your design elements together. When thinking about tile, be sure to also consider maintenance. Some natural stone requires a daily, monthly and annual treatment to properly seal and clean. White grouts tend to show mild and mildew quicker than grays.
When to Remodel?
While many of our customers green light home remodeling projects to quickly boost the resale value and attractiveness of their properties, we encourage families to invest in remodels to make the most of the years you plan to live in the home. Imagine the gratitude guests will feel when your bathrooms are warm, luxurious and inviting; not to mention the comfort you will feel having your own personal spa where you can begin and end your busy days.

Cabinets: Vibrant Color is the New White
When it comes to kitchen cabinets, white has been all the rage in North Dallas — and for good reason. It brightens the room; allows the color of our appliances, artwork and fresh foods to pop; and it rebels against the wood paneling found in the homes where many of us grew up. Today’s kitchen designs — both modern and classic — allow for a wider variety of cabinet colors.
Hatfield loves Wellborn Cabinets, proudly made by our neighbors in Ashland, Alabama. Wellborn makes natural wood and laminate cabinets in a wide variety of finishes and stains — from gorgeous grays and dreamy blues to all hues of natural color to enhance the wood species used.
